Collaboration with Homage Brewing
Blended Sour w/ Masumoto le Grand Nectarines
This is our very first collaboration release and we are very excited! We got together with the wonderful people from Homage Brewing in Pomona to sample barrel aged sour barrels from both breweries, with the intent of blending some beer together. We came up with a really neat blend, and decide to add Masumoto le Grand nectarines to it. Since we both have been deeply connected to the farm for many years, back into our homebrewing days, it seemed like an obvious choice. We blended the beers together, then split the amount between the two of us. Each brewery added the fruit separately, and did their own bottle conditioning.
We also wanted to do something really special for the artwork. We wanted both labels to have a similar feel but be unique, like the beers, so we decided to give our artists the exact same prompt. I recently saw the most beautiful picture of a marigold flower, who’s sunburst of exploding yellow and orange colors reminded me of a Masumoto nectarine cut in half. Hence the name, Masumoto Flower.
Despite starting as the exact same beer, both releases are exceptionally unique. Our version has an unripe peach flavor with sweet tarts notes and an incredibly funky aroma dominated by earthy and cheesy brett characteristics, and is highly carbonated. The Homage version has a juicy perfectly ripe stonefruit flavor and an aroma exploding with nectarines; one of the most representative examples of the fruit I’ve tried. Sara and I hand picked the nectarines for this release, and both beers remind me of being on the farm.
