Desire Path started as a small Flemish-style red ale in February 2023. It came out with more intensity than intended, so we let it sit. For a long time it was interesting but not ready. We used it in blends, borrowed from it, and eventually brewed a second batch specifically to blend with it. We rebarreled the whole thing and gave it more time. That was over two years ago.

The name comes from the desire path — the informal trail worn into the ground when people ignore the sidewalk and take the natural route. This beer found its own way here.

It’s difficult to categorize. Somewhere between a red ale and a brown ale. Between a sour and a Bière de Garde. What’s clear in the glass: oak, walnut, cherry pits, leather, and black tea with cocoa underneath. A general fruitiness that keeps pulling toward cherry without quite landing there. Tight carbonation and real tannin structure. The label is a Harold Fisk Mississippi River survey map.

This beer will continue to develop in the bottle. We’d recommend opening one now and sitting on another.
