For our fourth time blending Fleur de Masumoto with our homies at Homage Brewing, we decided to venture from the path a bit. Each previous blend has featured a variety of base beers from both Cellador and Homage, brought together to create a perfect platform on which to show off the badass fruit that our friends at Masumoto Family Farm grow. The drupe of choice; Le Grand Nectarines.

Le Grand Nectarines are the nectarines we dream about. Available for just one week at the end of the Summer, they contain a concentration of nectarininess for which there are no words. The juice runs down your arm when you bite into one. It’s bright and very sweet but also very tart to balance. At the risk of getting ahead of ourselves, we decided to blend in just a touch of jasmine and elderflowers; not to add to the nectarine flavor, so much as to make the floral end of its spectrum pop. We could not be more stoked about the result. I speak only for myself, but I believe this is the best blend of them all.

Kevin’s Tasting Notes:

Words can hardly describe how much I like this beer. There is a slight note of brie cheese in the aroma that reminds me distinctly of the very first batch of Fleur, and which I love very much. There’s some vanilla, juniper, honeysuckle, pop-rock candy, faerie magic, plumeria, and a touch of dusty dirtiness that immediate transports me back to being on the Masumoto farm. The dirt is so fine on the farm, that it clouds up with every step, creating a thin fog of beautiful earth that persists throughout the whole day of harvesting. Interestingly, when I visited that farm this year in 2022 it had rained that morning. One of the only days of rain they’ve had in that time of year in decades! This moistened the dirt and it made the whole experience much cleaner; it almost didn’t feel like the same place. usually your clothes and the inside of your car are caked in fine dirt; but not at all this year. I actually missed the messiness and the apocalyptic cloud of of dirt quite a bit.
