Any time we blend an anniversary beer, we want to do something special, and this year we’ve chosen to showcase the fruit of Andy’s Orchard. We’ve worked with Andy for years, sourcing cherries, apricots and plums from him. His fruit is grown with tremendous care and these cherries really stand out.

For these beers, we blended our Spelt and Aged Hop Saisons. We then split the batch and fruited each half with three pounds of cherries per gallon! One with Black Republican Cherries and the other with Black Tartarian Cherries. They aged for months on the fruit and have been resting in bottles for several months as well.

Both beers are mildly tart and deep color and tons of cherry flavor, but that’s where the similarity ends. Each variety of cherry is expressive in it’s own way. The Black Republican cherries gave up lots of character from their pits, with warm spice, oak and cinnamon character. The Black Tartarian Cherries are jammy and tannic and reminiscent of a sparkling red wine.

These bottles will age gracefully for several years.
